# hi-ai > hi-ai is a free, open-source (MIT) background helper for Claude Code on macOS and Linux. When Claude Code stops a turn because the user hit their usage limit, hi-ai queues the dropped prompt and sends it into the same session (claude --resume) when the limit resets. When a five-hour usage window ends, it sends one tiny prompt so the next window starts immediately instead of at the user's next prompt. It does not raise limits. Install: `npm install -g hi-ai && hi-ai setup` - [Home and demo](https://hi-ai.magnificalabs.dev/) - [Docs: install, commands, permissions, cost, troubleshooting](https://hi-ai.magnificalabs.dev/docs/) - [Source](https://github.com/serkankorkut/hi-ai) ## Facts - Uses two Claude Code hooks: UserPromptSubmit (remember last prompt per session) and StopFailure with matcher rate_limit (queue it). - Reads reset times from the rate_limit_event that `claude -p --output-format stream-json` emits. - Keepalive ping: Haiku with tools, skills, MCP, settings and thinking disabled; about 3.4k prompt tokens. - Data stays in ~/.hi-ai. No server, account or telemetry. - Made by Serkan Korkut, a Magnifica Labs app. Not affiliated with Anthropic.
